PLAB stands for Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board. It is an exam that international medical graduates must pass to demonstrate their knowledge and skills to practice medicine in the United Kingdom. The exam is divided into two parts, and PLAB 1 is the first part of the assessment. PLAB 1 is a written based multiple-choice exam that tests your knowledge and understanding of basic medical sciences, clinical practice, and medical ethics. The exam consists of 180 questions, and you have three hours to complete it. The average pass mark for the exam is 120.
The exam is offered four times a year in March, June, September, and December. You can register for the exam through the General Medical Council (GMC) website.
